The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Kate Mawusi Babanawo together with the Environmental Health Department of the District Assembly, has engaged market traders and other stakeholders as part of efforts to promote cleanliness, proper sanitation and a healthy environment within the district.
The engagement formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing activities to improve environmental sanitation and encourage residents, particularly market users and traders, to take greater responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean.
During the engagement, the DCE interacted with traders and market leaders on key developmental issues and commended the DCE for the completion of new mechanized washroom for the market. The Environmental Health Department also educated traders on basic sanitation practices and the health implications of poor waste management on the environment and on our health.
The Hon. DCE showed a remarkable commitment to this cause by providing 10 new dustbin to be placed at the market area to assist in proper sanitation within and around the market area.
The engagement ended with a call for stronger collaboration between the Assembly and the market community. The DCE reiterated that a clean and safe market environment is essential for protecting public health, supporting businesses and improving the overall appearance of the district.
